Grading:

Grades are determined by point system.  Points are assigned for each assignment, homework, quiz, chapter test, lab report, project and semester exam.  Points are cumulative so a zero lowers your possible points earned for a given term.  To figure out your grade, simply add up your total points earned, divided by the total number of points possible multiplied by 100.  This is your percentage grade.
Example:
                   Points earned =                90
                   Total points possible=     120

                   90 ÷ 120 = 0.75 X 100 = 75%  - C (based on grading scale below)

Once grades are posted, and you have a zero on an assignment, you will not be allowed to turn in missing assignments.  It is your responsibility to make sure that you always turn in an assignment on time.  More often than not, assignments are usually due at the end of every class period.

Classroom Procedures:

Make-up work:
Only students with excused absences will be allowed to make up missed work.  Excused absences may include, a doctor's excuse, court date, administrative, etc.  Students will have one day for everyday of missed work to turn in make up work.  For example, if you miss one day, you have one day after you return to school to make up missed work; two days absent, two days to make up work.  It is the student's responsibility to see me or check my website (link to schedule) for missed assignments immediately after the student returns to class.

Tardiness:
Each student is to be in his/her assigned seat as soon as the bell rings.  You have 7 minutes between classes, please budget your time wisely.  A student arriving to class tardy for more than 25 minutes will be marked absent.  Time may be accumulated up to 50 minutes and becomes an unexcused absense.  After school detention will result after two tardies.

Detention schedule:
After school detention (unless otherwise specified) will served in my classroom (Rm 16-101) on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 7:30-8:00.  If the infraction occurs on Thursday, Friday or Monday, detention will be served on Tuesday; if the infraction occurs on Tuesday, and Wednesday, detention will be served on Thursday.

Bathroom/Hall passes:
No one will be allowed to leave the classroom for any reason, 10 minutes after the tardy bell rings and 10 minutes before the class ends.  Each class will be given five (5) bathroom/hall passes per month It will be up to the class to budget these passes among themselves.  There will be a sign-out sheet for those in need of a pass and will serve as a running tally for the month.  Passes do not carry over!  A pass requested before the bell rings will count against the class total.

Laboratory Safety:
It is my primary goal to provide a safe environment for the students.  A safety contract (can be downloaded from the website) has to be completed and signed by both student and parent/guardian before he/she can perform any laboratory exercise.  Students are also expected to score a 98% or better on the Safety Quiz during the first week of class.  Horseplay and eating during labs are prohibited A student caught in any behavior that the teacher deems unsafe to themselves and other students will be sent immediately to the Dean's office and will get a zero for that lab.
